In Which I Catch Up On The Snowflake Challenge

Thank you to everyone who commented on Zeph's post. <3

Anyway, I'll be doing the Snowflake challenge days I missed here (except for the most recent one which I'll put in another post).

"In your own space, talk about a fannish opinion you hold that has changed over time."

I've already talked at length a bit ago about how my opinions on shipping have changed, so I won't go into that. But a lot of fandom opinions have changed over time, mainly influenced by me growing up on Tumblr since age 9 and how that in all honesty stunted my emotional maturity. For example, I used to think it was wrong to headcanon characters who were "coded" as a specific sexuality (typically gay or aroace) with anything outside of the commonly accepted norm. I think that's absolute bullshit now. I also used to really hate selfshipping and reader insert fic - this might be my most prominent change, actually. I recently came across a post from my blog in 2016 (I was 15) where I said "I'm in love with this character but not like Those People who ship themselves with fictional characters" and now I'm one of Those People who ships themselves with fictional characters. (I was also in denial about being ficto, LOL.)

In terms of fandom-specific opinions, I used to HATE what is now my number one OTP of all time. I thought it was so weird at first, and it received a lot of backlash from the fandom so I thought I was Supposed To. I ended up shipping it in secret, then openly when the fandom was so small & I was one of the most prominent people in it so people didn't really want to call me out for it. But for a while, I was its #1 most vocal hater.... now it's the top relationship dynamic on the ao3 tag solely because of me.

I already made goals here, so I'll skip that one.

"Talk about what has improved in your life thanks to fandom."

Honestly, in every way. Every friend I have now was made through fandom. I got through my suicidal years through fandom. I am alive because of fandom. It is so important to me and I don't care if people think that's silly.

Share your favourite piece of original canon.

I'm going to say that Frances Patrol is my favorite episode of Doom Patrol, so this takes the cake here. It's such a meaningful episode of television to me - a beautiful conclusion to certain aspects of Larry's storyline and a beautiful addition to some of Cliff's. It's also my favorite because of the NS/Larry scene, but you know.

Doom Patrol in general means everything in the world to me even still, even though I really did not care for the last 2 seasons, it still means a great deal to me. It's responsible for so much good in my life (kind of a more specific answer to the above question).

Some runner ups: The Shadow Within - Jeanne Cavelos, Gravity Falls's Weirdmageddon.
